Ericka Conant (she/her/ella) moved to Philadelphia in 2020 from the desert southwest, a region full of Mexican cultures and the constant blaze from the sun. She currently writes politics and features for AL DÍA news, where she covered the 2020 elections and vaccine rollout in the city. She is also a member of NAHJ and she keeps on top of the latest issues impacting Latinxs in the U. S. When she’s not writing or catching up on news, Ericka can usually be found with a croissant in one hand, Americano in the other.

Business owners in Kensington are currently facing a wide range of challenges that are directly linked to the opioid crisis. Some of these challenges include an increase in insurance premiums, missed trash pickups, homeless encampments, and drug use outside their establishments. These issues have decreased the number of customers and pose significant health and safety concerns related to the open-air drug market.
